Simply raw feeding - feeding in a species-appropriate way can be this easy!
We'll show you how it works!
BARF stands for 'Biologically Appropriate Raw Food'. It means: fresh meat, offal, raw meaty bones, and fruits & vegetables in a balanced combination. The goal is a healthy, natural diet that provides your dog with everything he needs for vitality, a shiny coat, and strong immunity – species-appropriate and completely without additives.

Frequently asked questions about BARF:
Getting started with BARF feeding is easier than many people think – especially with the ready-made Masterfeed BARF menus . They are balanced and already contain meat and vegetables in the optimal ratio.
It's best to start directly with a complete switch to BARF . First, choose easily digestible varieties like beef or horse and observe how your dog tolerates the food.
Next, calculate the daily ration and consider which supplements (e.g., oils or mineral powders) would be beneficial. Observe your dog closely during the first few weeks – stool consistency, behavior, and energy levels will provide important clues.
Minor digestive changes during the first 1-2 weeks are normal. However, if problems persist or your pet is severely uncomfortable, you should consult a veterinarian .
Our BARF products should always be stored in the freezer at -18°C to preserve quality and nutrients. Before feeding, we recommend thawing the product for approximately 12 hours (overnight) in the refrigerator without packaging. The meat should then be served at room temperature. Thawed BARF should be fed within 12–24 hours and should not be refrozen.
Yes – even though our Masterfeed BARF menus offer a natural base, oils, minerals and vitamins are important to fully balance the meal.
We recommend supplementing every BARF meal with natural additives. Here are a few examples:
- Feed oils such as our salmon oil or Artho Omega oil provide valuable omega-3 fatty acids for skin, coat and heart.
- Powders and minerals such as our BARF mineral mix or liver powder ensure the supply of calcium, trace elements and vitamins.
- Herbs like the BARF herb mix support digestion, vitality and the immune system.
This is how you turn your menu into a complete BARF food that provides your dog with all the necessary nutrients – naturally and according to its needs.
As a guideline, we at Masterfeed recommend:
- 2–3% of body weight per day for adult dogs with normal activity levels
- 5–7% for puppies or lactating bitches
- 6–8% for puppies or very active dogs
It's best to divide this amount into at least two meals a day – this is easier on the digestive system and ensures a steady supply of energy.
Example: A dog weighing 20 kg with normal activity receives approximately 400–600 g of BARF daily .
Our Masterfeed BARF products can be stored frozen at -18 °C for several months – you can find the exact best before date on each package.
After thawing in the refrigerator, the meal should be fed within 12–24 hours .
Please do not thaw the meat in the sun or microwave to preserve its natural quality and nutrients.
In principle, BARF is suitable for virtually any dog – from young to old, from small to large.
Dogs with allergies and sensitive stomachs especially benefit from our Masterfeed BARF menus, as they are monoprotein . This allows you to specifically select individual protein sources (e.g., horse, beef, or venison) and avoid intolerances.
Our menus contain no artificial additives, grains or preservatives , making them ideal for dogs with sensitive digestion or skin problems.
Our Masterfeed recommendation for a balanced BARF menu is:
- 80% animal content (of which 50% muscle meat, 20% rumen & omasum, 15% offal, 15% RFK)
- 20% plant-based content (of which 75% vegetables, 25% fruit)
This composition provides all the essential nutrients – proteins, vitamins, fiber, minerals and fatty acids – in a natural balance.
Organ meats such as heart, liver, kidney, lungs and spleen play a particularly important role, as they provide vital micronutrients.
